Woodcarvings
We have some beautiful woodcarvings in the Honduras Market. They came from Wil Mancia's A New Beginning Woodworking Ministry. Wil's heart was constantly breaking for the teenagers living on the streets in Pena Blanca. He decided to teach woodcarving skills to the teens to give them a career opportunity and a way to help them have a future. We have decided to support his ministry by selling pieces made by Wil and his students (all teens). I was even able to raid his scrap pile and brought some unfinished and discard pieces to sell....prices are surprisingly low and you can finish the piece yourself. All money goes to Wil to support his ministry and a percentage goes to the student who made the piece.

Aprons
Our first project with the ladies was making aprons. The large majority of ladies had never even seen a sewing machine. One or two had worked with an industrial sewing machine. They were so eager to learn a marketable skill.....they were extremely attentive and worked very hard. They each made one----then two----and wanted to make many more, but I wasn't sure I could sell one apron, never mind three or more for EACH lady. SO, we had to start sewing something else. One of the school girls walked in the room with a cute purse. I made a pattern and we were off!!

Purses
We have several types of purses in our market. Most of the purses are the cross body style. Some are reversible; some have zippers; some are large and some are small. A few of them would be perfect to carry a Bible and study materials.

Hats
If you have used a Nifty Knitter, imagine ladies AND children excitedly waiting for their turn to make a hat. We started out working with the ladies, but at night some of the children living at the mission house wanted to learn to make hats, too. We had taken lots of yarn, but every single strand of yarn was made into a hat by the time we left Honduras!
